Established in 1979 by John Raney, Raney Geotechnical, Inc. (RGI) has earned a reputation as the go-to firm, due, in part, to our responding to our clients’ needs with practical, cost-effective, yet innovative solutions.

RGI’s exceptional staff brings a wealth of knowledge, comprehensive experience and skills to each project. The firm currently boasts three registered Geotechnical Engineers, each with more than 20 years of experience, in addition to our other professional and field inspection staff, all of whom are ready to assist you with your geotechnical and construction needs. Our office includes an onsite laboratory testing facility that supports our consulting and construction services in-house.

Geotechnical engineering services are performed for clients in the commercial, single-family and multi-family residential, educational, industrial, retail, power, healthcare, infrastructure/transportation, and public works sectors. Construction testing is performed for a variety of projects within the greater Sacramento area including: large acreage mass grading, retail, industrial, public works, schools, distribution centers, and high-rise buildings.

RGI is a certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE Certification ID #14861) as recognized by the California Department of General Services (DGS).

Our firm maintains accreditations by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Division of the State Architect (DSA) for soils, concrete, aggregate, masonry, welding, high strength bolting, non-destructive testing (NDT), spray-applied fireproofing, and glulam beams.

RGI is in compliance with the requirements of ASTM E329, Standard Practice for Use in the Evaluation of Testing and Inspection Agencies as Used in Construction and AASHTO R18, Establishing and Implementing a Quality System for Construction Materials Testing Laboratories. Our laboratory is regularly inspected by the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) and AASHTO Resource for soils, concrete, aggregate, and masonry.
